Bent Bodies

Udo Hohenberger presents a series of new works at the HOLLEREI. Based on his longstanding engagement with the gestural representation of bodily codes, the new works show an intuitive handling of drawing that manifests strokes from movement itself, beyond compositional calculation, thereby taking maximum risk.

Unlike Hohenberger's previous works, the exhibited pieces are created on unprimed surfaces, thereby also revealing the blurring boundary between drawing and painting. Based on his craftsmanship and the trust in the accidents of the moment developed over the years, a series of human forms emerges that leaves clear representationality behind – and instead offers an openness of human bodies that, in the age of the post-factual, also suggests a certain romanticism.
