Reduced forms & seduction – this is the motto the HOLLEREI Gallery dedicates itself to: presenting works by the Graz-based artist Asma Kocjan.
At the centre of the exhibition, the mostly anonymised (female) figure serves as a connecting element, brought to the foreground through drawing, acrylic painting and collage technique. Provocatively, black-and-white X-ray images reveal the female body down to its innermost structure. Through red accents and seductive accessories, the medical imaging procedure is imbued with an erotic meaning, thereby taken ad absurdum. In contrast stand Asma Kocjan's figure paintings, which in their reduced language of lines and forms as well as impasto paint layers tend to conceal rather than reveal. In this constant dialogue between visibility and opacity, both painting technique and pictorial statement dominate equally.
