Under the title “3%,” the HOLLEREI Gallery presents Kata Oelschlägel (born 1996). In the exhibition, she provides a coherent overview of the development of her artistic work over the past two years—precisely 3% of an assumed artistically productive life of approximately 70 years.
The artist works on the concept of the line, beginning with the imagined, photographically depicted line, through the reinforced to the invasive line. Through this conceptually consistent sequence, the irreversible intervention of injury also occurs, but this loses its drama through the naturalness of blood, thereby inviting the viewer to experience the human body and blood in a newly conceived and felt dimension.
The action itself is radical; the intention is not provocation but the consistent continuation of the line into the innermost core of human existence, in all its vulnerability and dignity. Remaining faithful to the concept of the line, the “sewing action” follows—the stitching together of wounds in the finest handwork, both a healing act and equally a memory of childhood and the shared experience of sewing experiments. The longing to be connected finds its very consistent as well as playful culmination in the action of carefully “sewing together” the hands of different people without injury.
